Last July Vic Mensa released his debut album; this October he’ll be going on tour with Jay Z and opening for him on the 4:44 tour. Roc Nation and Jay Z have put their full support behind Mensa, even lending suggestions that Mensa took to heart.
After Jay had a look, Vic actually removed a diss bar on one of the tracks, but not without some consideration;
“There was a situation where I had a line that was kind of dissin’ somebody else and it wasn’t really necessary,” he told Big Boy in July. “I just wanted it [on there] because it was a good bar… [but] I took it off. I didn’t want to take it off, at all. I played it for [Jay-Z] and he didn’t really say to take it off—we was all having a conversation about it, me, him and Dion and everybody in the room—and then, later on, he hit me after thinking about it, and he was like, ‘You know, I think you should take [that line] off’.”
Jay had high praise for Vic Mensa at his listening party; “Vic is a very special talent,” he said. “He can do everything – sing well, rap well. He even engineers himself sometimes. He’s an incredible artist, like a once in a lifetime artist.”
